After having had a beard continuously for more than 15 years, I can honestly tell you that a beard doesn't itch so long as you wash it regularly. And even then, it's not the beard itself that itches or causes the itching but rather it's an issue with your skin that is causing the itching. So, either James needs to improve his grooming or see a dermatologist.
