I've got an old Synology 213 (not J !) with 2*2TB (4TB volume) that is getting very slow. I'm thorn between replacing the old hdd with ssd or going with a more current NAS. I only use it for smb share to all my screens and for computers backup.
What are your thought on this please ? Thank you.

LincPlus looks good but again the same old problem you can have a fast engine (ie Nvme, Sata) but if the speed limit is only 2.5gb Rj45 theres ZERO benifit we would all prefer 10gbe or 5gbe and just make it a 4 bay to save the PCI lanes in the CPU or just charge another $70 for more PCIe lanes CPU to get the 10Gbe in. I cant stop mentioning this as Nas say look we have nvme and ssd but whats the point if your still get 10 year old HDD speeds from the network card ie 2.5gbe is still 250mps which is HDD x2 speeds. 5Gbe is the mininum Nas Builders dont trick buyers with BS about nvme and SSD's if the interface only supports speed from old mech drives raided.

I agree 100% on the Lincplus LincStation N1 your previous review was key on my decision on funding it 🖖🏻

I got a 4bay Terramaster f4-210 quad-core for £170 (normally £210) on Black Friday @ Amazon. Not tested yet, but that seems like a steal, even at full price!

Thanks for the great video, I can buy Synology ds233j or Qnap ts 233 with the same price, I need it for direct play without transcoding to apple tv (4k mainly), which one is better ?

Hi just asking, I bought the DS224+ (Thank you for the review btw) because it's the only thing I can afford in our local stores. I was thinking on buying additional RAM but looking at some reddit posts there are some claiming adding 16gb ram sticks works and being recognized by the system. Can you make a video about it? To answer the question: does DSM utilize RAM larger than the specified maximum (in this case 6gb) by synology?

Hi, I have an old Netgear ReadyNas 312 with 2 4TB disks and the system doesnt work anymore (Netgear has discontinued the ReadyNAS product). What could I do to use this hardware? It's posible to install TrueNas on it? Do you know any solucion to avoid puchasing another NAS?

Hello NASCompares, loving your videos in-depth reviews.
I want my own home nas, but the problem is, if you take Synology starter NAS two bay, it is very costly in INDIA, plus we need HDD thats cost more than Synology NAS.
So i am currently using raspberry pi with my old External hdd, but its reaching its limit now.

So i don't have any options to purchase that Synology nas.
Question: do you have any suggestion on this or any solution where i can buy affordable nas. ebay and some other websites do have lower pricies but the Shipping cost is way to much plus if there comes Custom duty then Whoop whoop my god
if any better solution for this problem let me know, it would be helpful

Thanks for awesome content and reviews

Bought a DS224+ this weekend for £271 (possibly £217 after cashback) but didn't realise I couldn't take the drives out of my old DS215J & put them in the DS224+...

You got a lot of stuff - you sell any of that for cheap, by chance? eBay / Vinted? Budgetary reasons - cost of living is high, you see.

I can't understand half of what he's saying. Closed captions would be helpful; this is just a tip for people from the US. Very helpful video however thank you!😊
