The reason for this many of Indonesians gathered in Jeddah is because Indonesia hold the largest population of Muslims in the world and they are just taking Jeddah as a stop to go to Mecca which is near Jeddah.

Btw i’m Saudi and we love seeing Indonesians in our country because we respect them as if we are one 🙏🏻.

Jeddah is the gateway for Muslims to Mecca and Medina. Most pilgrims go to Jeddah after Umrah to enjoy themselves before returning to their country. That's why there are many restaurants from all over the world.

The Indonesia people you meet there are the pilgrimate who already finished visiting Makkah and Madinah. During their trip return to Indonesia, they will visit Al Balad/corniche area for shopping then directly going to Jeddah airport. That 's the reason also you find many Indonesia store/restaurant in that area

Saudis are the most down to earth arabs. I was surprised to see they're really welcome the newcomers. And they will be excited more if you can speak in arabic.

People after doing Umrah or pilgrimage in Makkah usually visit Jeddah and specifically Albalad for shopping before going back to their home countries.

A local from Jeddah here, i'm glad you enjoyed my city and your overall trip in Saudi. Not exactly sure when you visited and recorded this but Jeddah is known for being crowded pretty much round the clock unless it's daytime during the summer months. If it's a weekday and you're out during school and office hours then yes it'll be empty and starts to liven up after 6 pm. If you visited during Ramadan, many shops alter thier working hours and cafes/restaurants usually are close until 4 pm.
Most of the tourists in jeddah are still religious tourists, they usually come in organized groups, wear a uniform, and travel by bus within jeddah either before they head to Makkah and Madinah or after their visit to do a bit of sightseeing and souvenir shopping before they head home.

The Indonesian visitors you saw were usually pilgrims visiting Mecca and then heading to Jeddah to shop before returning home.
