FTL: Faster Than Light | 2023 Guide for Complete Beginners | Episode 1 | The Kestrel: Sector 1

I am a huge FTL: Faster Than Light fan. I played the original version about eight years ago and just picked it up again recently with the Advanced Edition now live. I have been relearning the game, and also learning from others on stream and remembering all over again why I thought this game was so amazing years ago. In this 2023 Guide to FTL for Complete Beginners, I start a brand new run with the starter ship: The Kestrel. I will walk you through every aspect of the FTL's UI, Controls, Fundamentals, some tips and tricks, and play through the game and discuss my thought process so you can fully understand the game and develop your own strategy. There is no one way to play this great game, and you often must take what you are given and make the best of it--in true roguelike fashion--so understanding the basics is a the best way to make progress and work toward learning the game, winning, and unlocking new ships!

One of my favorite roguelikes, yet I have won only 1 time, after 60+ tries, on normal xD. One of the hardest roguelikes for sure (Jupiter Hell is another tough one for me).

Great video, thanks. I just started playing and I learned a few things, like the missiles going through shields, I didn't know that.
The game seems so unfair sometimes it's crazy. I upgrade shields and stuff, buy better weapons, find new crew mates, and just when I think I'm doing good, the game is like "you're having fun? Well it ends now!" 😂 So I end up on a beacon where 6 enemies teleport on my ship, killing everyone while their ship shoots at me and a star puts everything on fire. Game over😭😅
No idea how I could have survived that🤷‍♂️😅
