It's not like "No. 10" playstyle is not useful anymore. It's because to play in that region one needs *immense* TECHNICAL ABILITY on the ball (passing, dribbling) & vision. It's also wrong to say that 10s weren't fast. Look at Maradona, Messi, Cruyff.

Messi, Neymar in his PSG seasons & for Brazil, Ozil, De Bryune, James Rodriguez, all have played in that role.

Jamal Musiala's playstyle is closest to of a No.10 nowadays because of his skill set. Rest of the players in Europe rarely manages a couple of 1v1 dribbles & they get praised for it shows how much the standard has fallen since last decade.

Kaka, Messi, zizou, Totti, riquelme, pele, Maradona, and ozil.
Those player are the best no. 10 ever for me.

It's not that classic no.10 is no longer useful...
It's just the hardest position to adjust in ...I completely agree with this

Number 10 has evolved, It Is not disappearing. Odegaard, Pedri, KDB... It's a different style. Not a position anymore, but different profiles.

The number 10 l. A number that all of us as kids dreamt of wearing it for our boyhood club and nation. Now having a less impact in the beautiful game a number weared by Pele, Maradonna, Kaka, Zico, Messi, Ozil, Dinho, Okocha, etc. Man football really changed 😢

What happens is a generation becomes so bad at a particular thing then the role goes extinct. Then one person comes back strong at that role and revives it.

E.g now ball playing goalies are in high demand but most of them are not good shot stoppers. Soon, when teams start conceding a lot, they will go back to shot stopping goalies again
Same with every role. Haaland is reviving the classic number 9 role in my opinion. Soon, everyone will need that prolifc number 9 for their team.

Look at Odegaard, KDB and Bellingham. Even Bellingham falls short with creating chanches and sometimes some creativity upfront being one of the best players at the moment.
Its not that the position is dying. You have to be very good and versatile to fit that position in todays football. Wheres before flair, creativity, passing, vision, dribbling, shooting and attacking ability and chanche creation was enough for the position even if you didnt had the stamina, speed or strength. Names like Diego, Rui costa, Alex, Nakata, Leonardo, Micoud, Valeron, Aimar.

It's sad, but it won't disappear. The False 9 concept was extinct for a long time until Guardiola brought it back and put Messi in that role against Real Madrid in a match they scored 5

It can be the same thing with the 10

Number 10 can’t truly be extinct. Because a couple of years down the line whenever a team uses a number 10 strategically and win a match, it’s going to be seen as if the coach is an alien who masterminded something never seen before. Football is evolving but creativity can never die.
