After 60 years of widening and deepening into a union of 28 member states, the EU is about to lose the UK, despite offering several opt-outs and a special-status deal to keep it in. Brexit is viewed by some as the start of an unravelling, while others view the UK as unique in believing it can gain more sovereignty and prosperity outside the bloc.

In this opening session, Alan Cochrane and Volker Patent will examine the EU’s central institutions and the extent to which they extend, limit or replace the work of national governments. They will also consider the role of its democratic deficit in provoking demands for re-expanding member states’ decision-making power, and the extent to which a European mentality has replaced or reinforced loyalty to the nation-state. Will Brexit enable remaining member states to integrate more effectively, or will an EU without the UK become unbalanced and vulnerable to wider disintegration?
With Allan Cochrane and Volker Patent.

I so wish that this was broadcast as a mainstream media programme.... it would wholly enhance 54% of British people's views regarding the and I have no doubt that it would have dragged in quite a few percentile more into the Brexit camp. This is an excellent example of why the majority have voted because listening to the "so called intelligentsia".... talking so much stilted socialistic idealism.... and deluding themselves that people are not bright enough, or had not thought about their vote sufficiently.

As an international businessman who has spent the last 30 years working throughout the length and breadth of the EU, from the Baltic states to the Med States.... I really can only applaud the British people for making the decision they made. I only hope that the EU fails, and out of the ashes there rise a new system that is democratic and returns to a trade bloc without tying the hands of all the 28, allowing political and financial freedom. IMHO the launch of the Euro was the singularly biggest mistake that the EU has it was at least 30 years too early. the psychologist in the centre is talking a load of bull that makes most people Seethe.
