Thanks for checking out this short episode! The soil used was Aoki blend from Japan with 2 parts akadama, 1 part kiryu and 1 part lava rock.

These videos are wonderful - I think like a few others I'm wondering what the mix for this soil was. The color made it looks like it had a high concentration of maybe 1/4 inch pumice going into the pot (guessing). I know in a recent talk Mauro Stemberger said he likes to use pumice with yamadori material; and I may have misunderstood - but I was under the impression he does this because he's trying to help the trees adapt to being potted while providing lots of aeration to help develop fine root growth without bare-rooting the tree; but this looks very much like bare rooting. I'm just curious, thanks again for the video! Very excited to see the next one.
