Pineapple is native from South america. Now it's interesting because Ananas is the original name from the Guarani language, but since in Brazil we had a stronger influence from the Tupi, we call it Abacaxi. Both are indigenous south american folks.

Tbf, not *_everyone_* says _"ananas", _ just most countries that speak/spoke a European language lol. Spanish is another exception, at least partly. Apparently, a lot of Spanish-speakers say _"ananas", _ but the Filipino word _"pinya"_ comes from another Spanish word for pineapple, _"piña"._

Funnily enough, none of the languages I encounter the most call it “ananas”. In Afrikaans (which my family speaks) it was translated directly from English as “pynappel, ” and in Vietnamese (I currently live in VN) it’s “dứa”.

It's not actually just English that calls it pineapple or similar. Spanish for instance calls it Pina(with a funky little hat on the n). Loads of languages call it some version of that.
