Using birth control and condoms every time people choose to have vaginal-penile sex is the best way to prevent an unplanned pregnancy and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV. If a couple has vaginal-penile sex and did not use birth control or the method of birth control failed, pregnancy could occur. What can a couple do if that happens? Get emergency contraception (EC). One more thing I would like to add..if you take emergency contraceptive pill while your ovulation has just occurred and you have had an unprotected intercourse then you can get pregnant..And chances are that it can be an ectopic pregnancy..There are doctors who wouldn't check this second possibility so please do proper tests to check that out or you can get into a serious life threatening situation..Telling from personal experience...And also try to avoid progesterone only birth control pills..
