'Wha Wadna Fecht for Cherlie', is a Scottish Jacobite song about the 1745 jacobite rising. The words to song's first documentation is not until 80 years later in 'Jacobite Relics of Scotland' by James Hogg in the early 1820s, the lyrics origin is unknown, the melody comes from an older song.

The 1745 Jacobite Rising, also known as the '45, was a rebellion led by Charles Stuart 'Bonnie Prince Charlie'. It aimed to restore the exiled Stuart monarchy to the British throne. The Jacobites won victories early, like in Prestonpans. After the utter defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 they were scattered. The aftermath saw the end of the risings and significant changes in the Scottish lands.

Fun fact! The voice behind the recording is a Scottish band known as "The Corries" another fun fact, the movie in the backround is "Bonnie Prince Charlie" A movie about numerous battles from the Jacobite rebellions of 1745-1746.

There were more scottish clansmen on the government side than the jacobites. The jacobite army contained french, irish, spanish troops, and even english troops ( the Manchester regiment). Even the cavalry had a scottish regiment.

I'm an expert on anything, definitely not 18th century warfare. But the clip portrays Jacobite soldiers armed with swords, pikes and shields presumably rallying to fight the English army that is armed with muskets and cannons. This is hardly a fair fight, even if you fight in A-symmetrical combat.
