That is very weird Pomelo tree and fruit you have. It doesn't look like typical pomelo and I have never seen pomelo with so little fruit in it. Also the shape of the tree doesn't really look like pomelo tree. To me it looks like a cross between pomelo and Citrus medica (we call it cedrát, I don't know how it's called in English). Or it might be a cross between Pomelo and Ichang Papeda. Doesn't look to me like typical Pomelo tree.

If you find another seller selling a pomelo seedling I highly recomend the red or pink pomelo (Chinese pomelo). They have less pith, softer pulp, and fewer seeds. Always look for grafted ones since they don’t grow true to seed.

This pomelo looks like an old variety from southern China.Taiwan has a better similar variety like the Vietnam one.. Taiwan tradition eat this kind pomelo starting at the end of summer while it just turn to yellowish light green. Southern China eat them after they ripe. Chandler variety is bigger size and pinkish drier pulp. Oroblanco is a cross variety of old pomelo and white grapefruit, and very sweet and juicy. All other variety it is a dryer pulp if it is water drop shape. Round shape is usually more juicy. All citrus plants need lot of fertilizer, your shows sign of not enough nutrition Feed it light and often. They love phosphorus. Farmer normally do not leave old fruit on trees because it just waste energy. Fruit shall be gone by the time flowering. The flower s show up in early spring or mid spring depending coldness of late winter. It is recommend to let tree thirsty in late winter for more flowers later. After flowering, make sure enough water and fertilizer for one to two months to ensure bigger pulp portion inside the fruit. Thick pith may be a result lack of early nutrition and too much late nutrition. The curly leaves many a result of coldness or an infection of mite. If it persist in the summer new leaves it is mite problems. But a study report said it is cause of certain mineral deficiency because it is often show up only on pomelo and grapefruit plants all year round. ( If it shows up in orange or lemon trees, it is insect problem.) Citrus flowers show up on new emerging branches on young or old branches. Farmer do not prune it often, do not prune it within one month before flowering. Flowering is initiating on buds at this time. Best prune time for shaping purpose is after harvest during fall or winter .

Taste test without taste description (especially sweetness)? Crunchy is not the desired aspect for a Pomelo fruit.

Great results! Wow! And a good explanation of how to eat the thing! Hey very bought them from road side stalls in FAr North Queensland and liked the flavour, but never considered how to eat it without getting all the pith!

Interesting how thick the pith is on that fruit. I've not seen one that shape in the shops over here, they are generally almost spherical
