Uber is being fined $412,500 for violating Australian spam laws.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority revealed the rideshare company sent more than two million marketing emails to customers in a single day.

The emails did not have the unsubscribe option and were sent to more than 500,000 customers who had previously unsubscribed.

An Uber spokesperson has provided the following statement: “Simply put, we made a mistake in sending out these marketing emails, and we worked collaboratively with ACMA to address and resolve it. We apologise to everyone who was impacted by this oversight. We take seriously our obligations under the Spam Act, and we have introduced additional measures to prevent this from happening again.”

Uber should fine them for issuing an illegitimate fine.
