I got a total number of 5 people into (high end) audio and especially vinyl. I am very young at 21, my closest friends (19, 19, 20, 22 y/o) all own beyerdynamic high end headphones, proper tube amps and listen to their tunes all-analog. Also, I got my stepdad into vinyl (again, he still had records in the basement) and Infinity speakers. At the time though, I remain by far the craziest in terms of gear and record collection (my acoustically treated listening room yields something about $70K altogether).

With 195, 000 subscribers, I’d say you’ve reached many; no doubt some are new audiophiles!

Trust the market as it is Steve. People know, they just don't care. When I play music over my system friends and family say: "Don't play it so loud." They don't want it interfering with their conversations or web surfing. I guess I've spent a lot of money for background music while cooking, house cleaning, lounging by the pool...

I would start with designing a new house around a listening room to take full advantage of the equipment. You can have stellar equipment, but if it's not done justice in the house it's placed in, it's a waste of money. Or save me the trouble and just buy a building with great acoustics.

I’m picturing Steve as a Bond villain who corners the high end audio market in the name of raising interest and educating people but then decides he wants to keep it all for himself leaving the rest of use to buy Bose and Beats!

With all that money, I would build a spacecraft that can fly the entire GOP to Planet Schitt

I think $1 billion is not going to be enough to live out your dream Steve.

Great way to get us thinking about expanding the community. I see your enthusiasm in kindling interest in this great hobby.
I enjoy participating in forums and always take the time to help a budding audiophile down the journey that I have found so rewarding.

The real fantasy is that any of this would make a difference. What you want is to buy Best Buy, or perhaps Starbucks, put entry level high end gear into it (which I have seen in Best Buy), and leave it playing all the time. maybe one in a thousand will be interested.

An audio non sequitur -My daughter has commandeered the TV this morning as usual. The animated show is having a party for ladybug the superhero and there is a guest DJ spinning vinyl! There was definitely some attention to detail on the part of the animators in building the equipment wires control and components all look interesting but the records are spinning in the wrong direction.

The amusing thing to me is that I recently became ~$US250, 000 wealthier overnight due to a property sale. After a lot of thought I realised I’m more than happy with my current system (replacement value ~$US5, 000 or so). Thirty or forty years ago it would have made a difference, but at the age of seventy and after a lifetime of being careful with my money?

Steve I think there's a market for your shirts :) Maybe not a billion but at least a few shekels

I had $60 kicking around so I bought a mint condition Polk 7B set of vintage speakers and paired them with dual Andrew Jones Pioneer subs and they are sounding quite sublime for a sealed box speaker. I like pairing old and new kit.

This week a new High End audio store opened in my town after a 20 years drought. I think there is a little change in wind, it is not a massive storm.

Just admiring the Bust of Steve in the background. Now the question is...what shirt is the bust wearing?

I would build a world class recording studio with a concert venue integrated in the complex. It would be able to capture music in both a studio setting and live performances with the highest quality audio and video. It would also fund a project to restore and remaster as many recordings as possible in cooperation with the owner. Not just remastering but a full restoration addressing things like tape dropouts and other quality issues that could not be fixed in the past but can now. I would train an entire staff of restoration engineers to do what I do with my collection and make each recording the best archive quality copy it can be.
