BENNY GOODMAN (Swinging King) Jazz History #30

Benny Goodman was known as the King of Swing. He led one of the most popular bands during the swing era, and it could be argued that he was the spearhead for the one time in history that jazz was the pop music of the day. Beyond his influence as a bandleader and a virtuoso clarinetist who tackled challenging classical repertoire as well, he was one of the first to shatter the color barrier with his small groups featuring black and white musicians appearing together on stage.

ABOUT THIS SERIES
The Jazz History series is a video adaptation of a PowerPoint presentation used to teach a university course. It traces the roots of jazz from Ragtime at the turn of the 20th century to jazz-rock fusion at the end of the 1960s.
