TURBO LS FUEL TEST-E85 VS 91 PUMP GAS (CORNY COMBO)

Just how much power is E85 worth? I compared E85 to pump 91 octane on a naturally aspirated LS, then to 114 Race fuel on a turbo LS. Is E85 really the hot set up for a cammed 6.0L? How about a turbo, cammed 60.L? Check out the result on this video.

I love how quick and to the point your videos are.

All right let’s see this engine get the wheel of death. Pump gas style. 5 degrees timing 10:1 afr let’s see how much boost that 6 liter will handle before it croaks from lack of octane

Great video Richard! Did you find, as the HPA guys have explained, that the E85 actually needed LESS timing than the race gas?
Their data indicates that the ethanol burns FASTER than gasoline, so when the gasoline is a super high octane that isn't detonation limited, it will want more timing than the ethanol fuel.

These video's are gr8 tons of info and its all about horsepower how can a car guy go wrong

Yeah. E85 is cheaper. But... its a lot less efficient than regular gas. So... it's not Cheaper. Though it's great for boosted engines

I know this'll sound a bit backwards but did you try timing in both directions? E85 might actually lower your mbt due to its properties, so maybe lowering timing might increase power.

What size injectors do you have to step up to for E85 vs pump gas and race fuel

Great videos but could you slow down a little? I can't even pause it fast enough to read the information

Have you compared 91 and e85 on an na engine with higher compression? Say that 6.0 is 10.4:1. And it didnt gain much. What would the change be just going up in compression(bump to atleast 11.4:1) on 91. Would there be more of a gain on e85 na with the higher compression.

At the beginning you said it lowers temp but didn't show that info...
Can/will you?

Could you ever use a mixture or straight liquid nitrogen in an ice tank for a turbo if so what kind of intake air temps would you see

Richard I love the videos, always great content! I'm with most of the guys here just needs to be a bit longer but no complaints. How much timing and boost psi was used on the e85 test if you don't mind me asking? I'm switching from pump gas to e85 on my turbo 5.3 soon and was just curious for a ball park figure. Thanks!

E85 will ALWAYS make more power NA. It is within 1% of the BEST oxygenated race gas. With respect, the lack of change only exposes the ethanol ignorance of whoever tuned it. It's physically impossible to not gain power if both fuels are tuned properly. Send me the NA file and I'll fix it for you. The E85 numbers are way down both NA & turbo.

P.S. adding timing on E85 sometimes LOSES power, but I doubt that is the main tuning error. I can all but guarantee that the turbo tuning mentality somewhat hid the problem on E85, but it's still there.

Any rule of thumb for timing advance scale for flex enabled ecus? For those of us street tuning
