Contrary to popular belief, Sphynx cats are not originally from Egypt. Their history is a fascinating tale of mystery and chance, rooted in a genetic anomaly. It all began in the mid-1960s in Canada when a domestic cat named Elizabeth surprised everyone by giving birth to a hairless kitten named Prune. This peculiar and unique feline caught the attention of cat breeders and enthusiasts, igniting a spark of curiosity. In the years that followed, breeders embarked on a mission to selectively breed hairless cats, aiming to establish a new and distinct breed. However, achieving this goal was not without challenges, as the natural genetic variation and complex inheritance of the hairless trait required several generations of careful breeding to stabilize the breed. Despite their name being derived from the famous Egyptian monument, the Sphinx, Sphynx cats have no historical connection to ancient Egypt. Instead, their captivating history stands as a testament to human curiosity and unwavering dedication, resulting in a remarkable breed that continues to captivate and enchant cat lovers worldwide to this day.

Did you know that the Sphynx cat breed is the result of a natural genetic mutation? That's right! Contrary to popular belief, they are not completely hairless but rather have a fine layer of down-like fuzz on their skin. It's this rare genetic quirk that sets them apart from other breeds and gives them their distinctive appearance. Their lack of fur doesn't make them any less affectionate, though!!

Thanks for Watching My Videos, Everyone!! 😊

The first three were prune, dermis, and epidermis. I should say the breeders were different people but that’s some of the history I’ve heard. And you have to admit those names are ingenious!

Most today are "Second Generation Canadian Sphynx", the result of a massive breeding program between Canada, Britain and the US.
They actually don't need any special care, they like clothes but don't get cold like Chihuahua and others. The 2nd oldest cat was a Sphynx at 34 years.
They are special 👍
Nice video 😊
