I was there. Don't remember alot from that weekend, but do remember being kicked out for "Sparklers" at our camp near the night track, went up red bud trail to town, bought some more adult hydration containers, and came back in through a different gate with a wave and a smile✊

Back in the 70’s we would have stood at the edge of that jump and visualized landing it. And then pedaled home for bologna and mustard sandwiches.

I'd give anything to see him come through the turn before the jump. It must have been some kind of fast/smooth!

If motos were 90min long Larocket would have lapped second place. Moto BEAST!

My cousin was the first person to jump
Laroccos leep on a quad. He still has the magazine that did an article on it. Pretty cool

I was at that race In fact the blue tarp you see centered in most of the shots are us. I’m the one with no shirt on. I was also there in the spring for tune up day that year, & Gene Ritchie announced over the P.A. That if we looked that way we’d get to see a “really thrilling thing”. It was Mike & Tim Ritchie blasting off of that thing. They had been working on it all day and it was winding down towards evening by then. From the armature pits / parking lot during the 4th of July every year, it looked like he was 200 feet high!! LoL. Mike was on a 250 & Tim was bolting off it on a Banshee 4 wheeler!!
WoW 🤩 that little clip sure brought back some great memories 🤗

There was a little bit more run up to the Leap back then. But still you'd have to hit the turn flawlessly and grab a handful. Definitely takes some big ol balls to hit that monster on a 125.

I went to high school and Jr high with Steve Lampson. Very talented cool guy and a friend.

This man is an American Hero. He's finished to Motocross, similar to what Mark Martin did to Nascar. Innovation.

This is just proof that you cant complain about not hitting hit just because you dont have enough power or good enough suspension

They say they cut the fence at the bottom of the hill and he got a straight run at it and made it before raceday. I read the article in mxa or racerx.

Never gets old. The bad part is he had to make that jump with those huge balls weighing him down!

Larroco first one to clear the leap on a 125 is so awesome. Kids clearing it on 250 fs which are more powerful and better suspension. People are like wow he did it. Phew as he should be able too.

Omg I imagine what it would look like to see him coming around that corner before the jump 😯

It was so much smaller then, I’d love to see someone try it now on one of those old 125’s

Even that old triple off the downhill before the step up was massive.
