ICE Fake College Sting

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) created a fake college as part of a sting operation. "Student" recruiters worked to solicit people from overseas on the pretense of higher education, but in reality, it was all part of a manufactured scheme to uncover immigration fraud. Several of the ring leaders have been indited and plead guilty.

ICE claims that all of the "students" who were attending the fake school were aware of the fraud, and that each of them enrolled for the purpose of circumventing normal immigration rules.

Today, we look at this fake college created by ICE, and discuss what happened in greater detail.

I agree totally that the majority of reporting I have seen frames the story from an entrapment angle at least in the headline. What I can't understand yet is whether the purpose of the sting was to find people already engaged in shady recruitment practices or students who were already engaged in / seeking shady enrolments. I also note that since that story broke I have not noticed any sustained follow up publicity of students arguing they were legitimate and had been duped which may give some credence to the government's position.
