The glycemic index is how fast a carbohydrate turns into sugar and how it affects the blood sugars, but the glycemic load has to be the concentration of carbohydrates.

GLYCEMIC INDEX
Less than 55 is low
56-69 Moderate
Greater than 70 high

GLYCEMIC LOAD
Lower than 10 low
10-20 Moderate
greater than 20 high

Watermelon is another great one to look at. Very high on the glycemic index, but VERY low on the Glycemic load.

I have always been skinny my entire life. I would eat 3-4 donuts a day... I never gained a pound from it so I thought it was ok. But the past year I've started to eat "healthier" because I found out I have a high risk for cancer. But lately my body has been feeling like it is rejecting carbs so I'm going to switch to fats because I'm sick and tired of being tired all the time! All those donuts have finally caught up with me and now I'm paying the price! Screw carbs.

Dr. Berg is doing an outstanding job of serving the public through his short and highly educational videos. I urge everyone to please share Dr. Berg's videos and recommend his books. This would not only show our appreciation to Dr. Berg but also serve our public and loved ones by informing and preventing them from unnecessary disease and expenses by a lack of nutritional facts and poor choices. Greatly appreciate your videos.

I had already researched this subject, but your explanation is extremely helpful. I think most people can understand this and gain from it. You are very clear and relatable, a good teacher. You also are wise in presentation, as there seems to be a wide audience that … may not stick it out for a very lengthy, detailed lecture. You share a lot, enough, in an understandable way, inna short time. I think you fill an important niche, and wish you continued success as you are helping so many.

Dr Berg, I love your information, you have changed my life! Iam a 70-year-old male and type 2 diabetic for about 10 years now. 5' 9" inches tall and i weighed 270 lbs. I started eating your way-cutting carbs way down, no more beer, eating veggies every dinner (OMD) with protein. My main source of protein is wild salmon and steelhead I catch myself and chicken and grass-fed beef. I also will eat sardines in olive oil. In 6 months my A1C has gone from 9.1 to 6.4! And I am convinced with time I can get it even lower. I try to keep calories under 1200 per day and usually is less. I have lost 60 lbs and still losing weight and want to get to 175 lbs. As I write this I am breaking a 4 day water fast. I was never hungry and felt fine. Do you think I should do a fast once a month? By the way, as a kid reeses cups, potato chips, and pizza were my favorites. I live in the Pacific Northwest and feel blessed about my ability to catch all the fish I ever could eat.

Dr Berg, the knowledge you share is so helpful to me and I'm sure too many others. You take the time to explain every detail about the food we eat. I don't know of any other site that covers so many topics as you do. I particularly like the fact that you draw everything out on your board. You are very very good at what you present. Many thanks

Dear Dr Berg
Thank you for another great video.
It was a great introduction to the Glycemic Load [I had only understand carbs based on the Glycemic Index so this video was an eye opener[ but I would like your deeper perspective in this area in a future video.
Could you please address how we can use the Glycemic Load [and in tandem with the Glycemic Index] to make better choices for choosing foods and meals for the Ketogenic Diet.
Peace to All

Thank you so much for all of your help on these videos. I have been addicted to sugar for most of my life, so being diagnosed with Diabetes 2 was a hard pill to swallow. But with the help of your videos and some free classes on Diabetes, I have learned a lot and have managed to keep my A1C in a decent place. The video on Glycemic Load was excellent and it made me realize that I still have some changes to make. Thanks again so much for your help. Please know what an incredible service you are doing for humanity!

I am a fan of your videos, the subject is always well defined and explained, you use short sentences and most of all pencil and paper. Even when I don't feel that much concerned, I am still attracted to what I could learn that I don't know. And sure enough, I'm always happy to learn that new thing you will get through in your address to us. And you are never boring. Never.
