Baby Elephant and Mom Explore Big Habitat with Herd

After careful planning and delicate introductions, baby Ajabu and mama Mlilo are venturing into our biggest habitat now with other herd members.

At 700 pounds and nearly 11 months old, Ajabu is soaking up his new surroundings, exploring every crevice and log. Zola has stepped into a natural "auntie" role and keeps a very watchful eye on Ajabu while mom takes "me time" breaks. And Ajabu remains incredibly inquisitive of his new herd mate, Amahle - maybe because she's the one closest to his size (that is at more than 3,000 pounds).
Stay tuned as other herd members join the group and work together to care for baby Ajabu. These moments truly take our breath away.
