To be honest, YouTube failed on this one. I watch tutorials on YouTube, and I check whether the content is good by likes versus dislikes. YouTube return back the dislike button. Stop controlling people.

The biggest kick in their logic is that they're claiming it's to protect small YouTubers from harsh criticism and hate mobs discouraging them. But the creator can still see the dislikes anyway, so that's just a straight up lie.

Imagine not being able to see the star rating of a business on Google Maps before visiting or the star rating of a product on Amazon before buying. Being able to see the ratio of likes to dislikes on a video on YouTube was similar to seeing how many “stars” it had.

Showing dislikes is important. It shows to the user how other viewers thought of the video, so they'd have an idea of what the video is like before wasting their time.

The like/dislike ratio is such a great tool for viewers to know, at a glance, if a video is worth watching or not. Creators already had the option to hide the likes/dislikes on their videos. This change just feels pointless and inconveniences everyone.

I think this is one of the worst things YouTube has ever done. Like Pewds, when I click on a video, I can immediately tell if it’s clickbait by the dislike counter. This is honestly just going to allow clickbait channels to continue their predatory actions towards children, with no counterbalance. This is not a good move.

It was also a good way to see right upfront if a video was completely fake or even scam or just super bad. Now you have go through so much bullshit.
