One thing I like about roundabouts is that they make U-turns stupidly easy and far less dangerous

Don't forget the tax money savings. Traffic lights are expensive to install, expensive to maintain, and expensive to power. The electricity savings in a small-to-mid sized town is frankly shocking.

I just realized that no GTA game has had a roundabout in it

I'm originally from Carmel and I have to say, looping around everywhere is kinda fun. It always sucks when you leave Carmel and have to wait at stoplights again.

One of my friends is actually an urban planner from Carmel, Indiana!

He said the city made the switch when their mayor went on vacation to Europe, saw how useful roundabouts, were and immediately began making the changes when he got back.

13, 000 roundabouts in the USA, In Britain, we have a word for 13, 000 roundabouts, we call it Swindon

People really underestimate how much safer roundabouts are. Theyre cheaper than traffic lights too

I swear a ton of people just hate them because they want to speed, and the roundabout is one of the only intersections you can't speed through even when no other cars are present

I only get stressed with multi lane roundabouts, I always feel a bit confused. That being said, I drive a bit slower, increase my situational awareness, and always get through easily

I actually got into a car accident on my first day driving in a roundabout. Crashed into a lady who pulled out in front of me while I was approaching the exit. Had to talk to two different insurance agents and state my side of the incident. She ended up getting faulted for the accident because she made three separate stories and thankfully for me, was in the wrong EACH AND EVERY TIME. I got a dashcam after that. The roundabout I got into an accident in also is not very well optimized and was the primary entrance into a strip mall complex so 😂

Here in the Netherlands we have a lot of roundabouts. I personally love them. They are so clear. When approaching a roundabout you can already start looking at the left of how busy it is. Then you can decide how much you want to brake, or just step off the gas and flow through. There are busier roundabouts tho which require to be more alert such as roundabouts with multiple lanes or with a bike path (sometimes bikes can go the other way around to so you have to watch both ways).

Americans do understand roundabouts, just not my aunt

I like roundabouts, but just like driving on the snow; I'm not afraid to do it, it's the other drivers that make me nervous.

I just wish people would stop honking at me to go when a big semi truck is literally in the middle of using it

Road science is half trusting people to be smart, and half expecting them to be very stupid.

i really don't understand how anyone could not understand roundabouts. they are incredibly simple

Honestly I like the US road arrows they use for roundabouts. In Europe standard directional arrows are the norm, and that's not always intuitive if the roundabout has more than three exits and/or has roads going off at odd angles. Having a more accurate representation of the routes you're supposed to take around the roundabout in each lane, while a little more complex does help with better lane selection.

Fun fact, half of world’s roundabouts are in France, and as a French i can swear i see them every 20 meters 😂

I like this optimistic view. Need more of that

Respectfully, fuck the 6-lane 8-exit roundabout between Lowell & Chelmsford in Massachusetts . I’ve driven that thing a hundred times and I still don’t understand which lanes go where. And if it’s dark, may God be with you because that’s the only way you’ll get to where you want to go.

AND if you take a wrong turn you’re probably on the high way so it’s gonna be a while before you get back there
