It wasn't until after a decade in the fold, after his family pleaded with him, after the FBI raided his office, apartment and hotel room, Michael Cohen testified Tuesday, that he finally decided to turn on Donald Trump.

That decision led to a 2018 guilty plea to federal charges involving a payment to the porn actor Stormy Daniels to bury her story of an alleged sexual encounter with Trump and to other, unrelated crimes. And it's that insider knowledge of shady deals that pushed Manhattan prosecutors to make Cohen the star witness in their case against Trump about that same payment, which they say was an illegal effort to influence the 2016 presidential election. Under questioning this week, Cohen has described the nuts-and-bolts of how the scheme worked.

“Each time Cohen said to me: ‘I swear to God, Bob, I don't have anything on Donald Trump, ’” Costello’s prepared testimony states. “Cohen must have said this at least ten times because I kept coming back to it from different approaches.

“Cohen kept on saying: ‘Guys I want you to remember, I will do whatever the F ... I have to do, I will never spend one day in jail, ’” Costello recalled. “I even said to Cohen at one point: ‘Michael, now is the time to tell the truth and cooperate if you want your legal problems to disappear.’

Cohen would again reply: "I swear to God, Bob, I don't have anything on Donald Trump."

When Cohen got new lawyers and began singing a different tune to the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan, Costello said he secured a waiver of attorney-client privilege and turned over previously privileged memos to the federal prosecutors that directly contradicted Cohen’s new account of events.

This morning we were supposed to have a cheese Danish. I rarely eat those. But someone already ate it all, so I hat a muffin which was pretty good - but it wasn’t quite the same.

Maybe part of the problem was just the expectation. I mean, if I’d thought it was going to be a muffin for breakfast, I probably would’ve liked it more.
