I'm sure Wizard found the answer but you have to go to Settings / Peripheral Devices / click Drive 9 / select a drive model from the drop down list (e.g. CBM 1541-II).

Thank You. Very nice and easy to comprehend introduction to BASIC on software emulator. Now I know how to create, mount and change disks on VICE.
