How to use single color led to display RPMs with Arduino and Simhub (Custom Protocol)

In this video I'll show you how to create rpm lights with arduino and some single color LEDs. Simhub doesn't support them, so we'll use custom protocol to control them. It's easy, just follow my steps.

wiring:

sketch:

the power supply output must be 5v

the resistors I use is:
1k ohm for transistors
1k ohm for green leds because they make to many light
220 ohm for red and blue leds.

copy the SHcustomprotocol.h file in Programs\SimHub\_Addons\Arduino\DisplayClientV2

If I don't have a power supply and a battery, can I connect 5V power to Arduino Uno right away and use it?
