I watched it on Netflix last week because I remembered that you mentioned this film in a video. I'm so glad I did.

The oppression in this movie is multilayered. The daughter was a bit more in touch with what was going on than the mother from the very beginning. It took the mother a great deal of time to come to grips with there being a hidden entity who gained access to their home after the missile strike. This denial enabled her to continue to trick the mother and daughter and maintain a level of oppression over them until the end.

I knew there was something I was missing after watching this and you've made me appreciate this movie on a deeper level. Thank you

This sounds really interesting. I'm gonna have to make it a point to check it out.

Also I wanted to add that this is the only good Jinn horror movie ( and I specifically mean _"Jinn"_ not "Genie" ).
Incidentally "Under The Shadow" is not just good, but really good. On many levels.
...btw I don't mean that it's the only truly good one. It is the _only_ good one. Invert the level of its quality into the negative spectrum and you'll have an idea of how laughably bad the other ones are. You've been warned ;)

I just saw this on Netflix. I liked it but it felt like a toned down version of the Babadock(sp???) I felt it was at its best when it wasn't dealing with the supernatural horror but with the horoors of being a woman with a daughter living in Iran.

She lost her daughter at the end. What’s so happy about that.

I am sorry for being offtopic, but I have found myself in your blacklist on twitter...did I do something wrong? I am sorry if I did...

To me, it felt like the horror was not needed: the bombings are a much bigger threat than ghosts and yet they don't leave, unlike everyone else in the apartment, because the girl can't find her doll and the mother is stubborn. Why are the ghosts needed when bombs, a very real threat, are present in the film?

I really wanted to like it but it just never did anything for me? I'm a big fan of slow burns (especially in horror films) but I just found that there was never anything interesting in it for me to pay attention to? Aside from the obvious feminist lense the film is taking in regards to how it's exploring the conflict and the oppression of women, it just seemed like a bland horror film to me? Maybe I missed something or wasn't paying enough attention but idk.

That's not how you pronounce Iran, and the name of the language is Persian
