I agree with giving Jerrett the belt because he was a great heel. The mistake was not passing it on to a great face sooner

Here are the reasons:

Bro number 1: He is my boy
Bro number 2: He said nice things to me
Bro number 3: He does what I tell him to do without arguing with me like when I put the belt on him.
Bro number 4: He says nice things about me to other people every time he is in front of me.
Bro number 5: He is my boy and he says nice things to me.

So what Russo says isn’t false. Jarrett was durable, reliable and he was a good worker and good heel. Problem was that he didn’t have that extra something to be world champ in that big of a company. Could he wrestle in some main events here and there? Sure. Could he even become a transitional heel champ for a minute? Sure, but he wasn’t going to be that big time heel champ. Steiner was a much better fit for the spot

Bro, Jarrett couldn’t get over as a heel or face, bro!

Jarrett was never over. When he is champ anywhere I change the channel.

That’s when WCW was really dying. That whole nWo 2000 thing was awful

Jarrett was a good mid card heel, but not a believable main eventer

I felt the WAY Russo pushed Jarrett was more of the problem than anything else.

Russo isn’t lying. He absolutely could depend on Jeff… except for ratings, PPV buys, merchandise sales and general interest in the product.

Jeff was the Triple H of WCW burying everybody. In NWA/TNA. Jeff was burying everybody.

To keep the belt on Jeff when you had guys like Sting, Steiner, DDP, and Goldberg was jist ridiculous

He just wasn’t a convincing world champion and I’m afraid it cemented WCW as a B show compared with the WWF (who had Stone Cold/HHH/The Rock as their champion during this period).

Mike Awesome would’ve been a good idea, obviously Scott Steiner too.

Scott Steiner needed that belt in 1999

Not buying it. JJ mid card heel at best

Making jeff leader of nwo with doa members was the worst thing, he was made him champion cause all the main eventers like sid, bret, goldberg, hogan, nash were off for whatever reason, jeff did deserve a run as champion but it was too long, max he should gave had belt for one month, all he had was the guitar and decent promo work, not even a memorable finishing move, i dont even renember if he had one, his look was better with long hair and cowboy gimmick.

JJ was always a solid worked, but he was never main event material. IC/US champion ego sometimes challenge goes for the top, prize was the perfect spot for him and there is nothing wrong with it. If he was going to get the belt, he needed to be a traditional champion, purely to lose it to an over face. Putting it on him as many times as Russo did, and putting him over top faces for it, was absurd.

jeff could be a transitional champ
but as a full time world champ especially an heel one, way etter alternative was Steiner

Jarrett is US title material that's all

When I think about Jeff being a 7 time champion & Rick Rude, Scott Hall, Mr Perfect, & soooo many other guys that never got that strap (Piper, Ted DiBiase) etc. It makes me sick. Morrison, Kingston, Shelton Benjamin, ALL were better. Jay Lethal RIGHT NOW!

Cmon man! RVD? 1 reign for some of these guys? F THAT
