WHY YOUR DOG DOESN'T COME WHEN CALLED
Показать описание
Sooo many people have trouble getting their dog to come when called, which is a HUGE issue because training your dog to come to you when called is the single most valuable and important command you can teach him!
This command is one that many dog owners neglect to teach until it has become a glaring issue, which leads to issues as a dog ages and cements poor habits that are harder to break.
Think of how many times you may need your pup to come to you when you call and all the different situations, frustrations, or even danger that could arise if he doesn’t come to you the moment you need him to.
And while it may take longer than other commands for your dog to learn to come compared to other basic obedience commands, it is absolutely worth the time investment!
Here’s How To Teach Your Pup To Come:
1. When teaching this command, start in an enclosed area so that your pup does not have freedom to run if he chooses not to obey.
2. Take your pup off of his leash and allow him to roam around.
3. Say your puppy’s name followed by the command “Come” in a very positive voice while holding out a treat.
*** Always associate the command with positivity! You want your dog to always come when he’s called, and for that to happen, your pup needs to think that something positive will always happen when he comes to you.
4. If your pup doesn’t come to you right away, make a ‘kissy noise’ or other attention grabbing noise to make sure he sees the treat. Be patient and redirect his attention to you until he comes.
5. When he does come to you, reward him with the clicker word and a treat, no matter how long it takes him to do it.
6. Repeat this exercise MANY times until learned.
Keep in mind that if the only time you ever tell your dog to “come” is when you are going to end the play time by putting on his leash and restricting his freedom, teaching this command is going to be an uphill battle for you!
Instead, remember to practice recall throughout your stay at the dog park or another fun place. By doing this and consistently rewarding him for coming will teach your dog to associate coming to you when called with a reward; as opposed to the negative consequence of leaving such a fun place!
So, to recap: follow the steps above, mix in recall practice in different environments, make recall training FUN and you’ll be well on your way to having a dog who comes to you when called EVERY time!
