Case and point of why your dog training should never stop. Keep pushing keep testing. I try and invent ways to test my dog make him as steady and solid as possible.

Check cord and shock collar also. Another tip I saw was to not let your dog get every retrieve training them you yourself go and get the dummy so they know it’s not there’s unless you tell them to

Try using a pinch collar. If she moves tug on the lead and go and pick up the bumper. Don’t let her get the bird until she does what you want. Obedience is one of the biggest things in a duck dog to me. Great looking pups with a lot of drive!

Nice job guys I know how hard it is to do dog work while holding a camera!

Also try gently placing your foot over the dogs tail. It will keep their buts on the ground and prevent creeping.

I suggest you add an element the dogs are not used to - Denile. If you want steady you have to insist on steady all the time, no matter what happens, that has to be the expectation. A dog moves, thats not steady, no retrieve. The element I'd add is neither dog gets to go, one of you guys walk out and get the bumper, showing the dog NO reward unless steady. Start from the beginning again. Through repetition, they will get what you want and be better. If you want almost steady, the standard can be lower, but theres no real reason for that. I too struggled with this for several years with my hotrod dog Tilly, the battle never ends. Work work work.

Keep at it! Nice work you'll have em dialed in before season! I need to get out and do some tuning with Chief.

Really enjoy all your videos. I’m no pro trainer by any means but neither dog is steady. retrieve refusal is the key in this training. If they creep, no retrieve if the flinch No retrieve. But basic obedience needs to be established before any of that. I would be going a little further back and working on the basics obedience again. Then move forward.

Here is a suggestion, Instead of an he collar how about staking Candy with a pinch collar on. A little extra cord and the pinch collar will give her the pressure on pressure off when she brakes. Similar to e collar

Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. Putting the time in, pays off and it is awesome when that clicks in...then repeat, repeat and repeat.

Hey Elliot I have a quick question for ya. Why do you guys always bring two dogs when you go hunting? I know if it's you and another cast member you'll bring ol Izz. But if your dad comes along he brings Candy to. I know it's nice to have two dogs so you can get ducks asap and that you want to bring your best hunting partners with but I would think one dog could work with 3 hunters.

Are you against collars? I like them for the fact that you can have immediate warning and Punishment. Like when the dog ran off instead of waiting for it to come back and telling it no you could have buzzed or lightly Zapped it to discipline it

Hey guys...a little constructive criticism or maybe I should say, a little “help” and suggestions. First of all - “stay” is a more permanent command. What you dare working towards and should employ is “woah”. Stay would be a command that might be associated or worked with while doing kennel/dog hide work. This is assuming of course, that both Izzy and Candy have been trained with positive only Reinforcement (as I believe ALL DOGS SHOULD BE) and it’s how I have trained MANY dogs including Omaha.
That said, introduction of gunfire with an older dog that has been hunter (AKA a finished dog or in your case, 2 finished dogs) requires that the handler, NOT confuse the honoring dog by not rewarding them. As a matter of fact, the second dog should be given as much praise if not more that the retrieve dog. I do not see that in this video and frankly, I have never seen that in ANY of your hunting videos. And I have watched them all. Trust me. Patience is key - but the handler must also know when to praise. Ultimately, the retrieve or the honor becomes the reward (even for finished dogs) but in prepping for the season the basic commands and timely praise cannot and should not be forgotten. Just my two on the vid. -Lanny
