Expanding on this, Michel parses through Orbán’s recent low-key visit to the US to meet with the Heritage Foundation, walking through the nationalist parallels between Trump and Orbán (particularly with their evangelical bases), the influence that modern autocrats like Putin and original fascists like Mussolini have provided to Orbán regime, and how the US far-right think tanks are attempting to pick up on his blueprint. After briefly touching on the expansive role of foreign autocracies and authoritarian regimes in financing right-wing think tanks like the Heritage Foundation, Emma and Casey wrap up the interview with an assessment of the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” and their attempt to turn Donald Trump into a more efficient fascist.

I first heard of Orban from a book of "pro-democracy" essays.. It was edited by Abigail and Stephen Thernstrom, who are unrepentant, conservative cold warriors. It was a speech he gave during the end of Hungarian Communism. At first, I was disappointed that Orban had "turned" to fascism, just as Solzhenitsyn did. However, upon further consideration, it is no surprise that the Thernstroms, Reaganites themselves, would have seen a fellow traveler in him.

Btw, Hungarians who live in Romania(mostly in Transylvania which was part of Austro-Hungarian empire before WWI) usually follow Victor Orban on television. And Victor Orban keeps promising them that he will retake Transylvania from Romania...

All across the world there is a developing demographic crisis. Because extreme wealth inequality has effectively disenfranchised young people who can never aspire to earn a living wage or own a house, a great many countries, to include Russia, China, the US and many Western countries do not have sufficient numbers of young people to support the billions of old farts who are now entering their retirement. But because the global plutocracy is so entrenched, and because their politics are so violently anti-immigrant and anti-democratic, these upside-down population pyramids are actively creating dystopian societies that are completely unnecessary. In America, for example, instead of welcoming the millions of hardworking young people fleeing their broken countries, we have so stupidly, even suicidally declared war on them.
