Bellend was the correct destination. All good if youre a self confessed Tesla fan boi, but at least familiarise yourself with the vehicles operating system before doing the test.
Have just sold my M3 and have the Seal on order. Had the Atto before that, and the BYD's speech software is so much more accurate than Teslas for me (and my kiwi accent)
I hated the lack of buttons in the M3, i guess each to their own.
The over intrusive warnings can be turned off for each drive here but ANCAP standards mean they can't stay off, BYD have said theres an OTA update that will at least tone them down.
Does feel like you'll talk anything down thats not Tesla, you seemed to mention them more than BYD

Ok the BYD has its faults, but give them (and other Chinese automakers) a few years and the world will be flooded with them. Tesla will be the only Western competitor.

I saw all the video and right from the beggining I could understand that you are a Tesla lover. You were just trying to say bad things about BYD Seal. Or either you had a faultu unit to test, or you just want to show somwthing that its not true. I do love Tesla but my experience with this car has nothing to do with yours whatsoever. Funny to see your efort...

When doing a review on any car, it would have been a good idea to have had instructions from someone at BYD on all the working and aspects of the car. You need to drive any car for at least a few days to be able to assess it.

I don't know why BYD priced their cars more than Tesla in the UK. In Australia they are way less than Tesla.

The speed limit warning chime is new EU reg and applies to all cars. The M3 Highland has it too and you can't turn it fully off. It reactivates each time you start the car.

Loved the Magic Roundabout reference. Haven't heard that tune in years.😄

Thanks for sharing this with us Will, I have been wondering about the BYD product. Good singing voice, we need a Tesla themed wedding in the TSLA community, then we could have you the pleasure of seeing you in action...what do you think?😂

You didn’t take the time to study what it does or how it performs.
I think you already had your mind made up. Not one of the reviews I’ve read and seen (and there have been a lot) have given it a bad report. If you bothered to check yourself, then you’ll know that they are waiting for a software update, exactly like all cars, even Tesla. You never mentioned lots of things that are better than Tesla, that’s because you haven’t studied what it can do, you can tell by your input to the menus .
I’ve had Tesla and my Excellence model beats it hands down for most things.

If OTA updates are available, you've given them a list to start on.

As a Tesla owner of 4yrs, I doubt you're capable of being unbiassed - You bought a Tesla and will feel at one with it after that amount of time!
This would be like coming from an iPhone to an Android device and expecting them to be similar to operate.
You always need more than a couple of hours in any car to know whether you want to own them IMO.
Let's be honest, we don't "usually" marry someone after we've slept with them just once!

Sorry. One of the the stupidest reviews I ever saw. Hilarious.

It's cheaper in Australia than a model 3, outselling them here, in Jan 2024 for the first time.

I wonder if the negatives you listed here have something to do with the tyres? The continental eco contact 6 is not a very good tyre. I saw the review on tyrereviews and the consensus is that the tyre is quiet, comfortable, efficient, and has low wear, but it dulls the steering feel. Since it’s not exactly a performance oriented tyre, the ride will feel somewhat wobbly. I dont know why BYD decided to fit the eco contact 6 on the non-chinese seals, since the chinese market seals are fitted with continental sport contact 7, which is arguably one of the best performing tyres on the market today. I was concerned when I saw eco contact tyres on the car when I first saw it, and I think my worry is warranted. I have the seal on order, and I will definitely change the tyres when EV specific tyres have become more widely available at a lower price. My old BMW felt like a completely different car when I replaced the oem bridgestone RE050 with the michelin pilot super sport.

Dear Jigsaw,
Your review is, in my opinion, clearly biased. Let's see why:
1 - I am on a process of buying my first electric car. I have tested several cars, including Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal. My original idea was to buy the highland model 3. Fantastic price, huge power, and exceptional energy efficiency.
2 - I have ordered a BYD Seal two weeks ago. After a 2 hours test drive in both vehicles, I have chosen BYD over Tesla.
3 - You can say, and you will be right, that the Tesla Model 3 is more efficient, less expensive, access to the superchargers network, charges at a higher speed, has a bigger trunk, has a better market value and the multimedia touchscreen is more intuitive. That is all true. But, in my opinion, that being said, the advantages of the Tesla Model 3, end here.
4 - The design is more refined for the BYD. The panoramic roof is spectacular, the design of the car and several details are very interesting. The interior quality is far better. The BYD is also much more user friendly (due to physical commands) and comfortable than the Tesla.
5 - But let us talk about the true and important things that, in my opinion, make BYD superior:
a) the blade battery - the possibility of replacing broken modules without the necessity of changing the entire battery;
b) the increased security of blade battery on fires and crashes;
c) the parking sensors - While testing the model 3 I have touched the wall in my garage due to the faulty indication of distance - the system indicates 37cm, and I had already crashed into it;
d) the absence of physical commands for throttle and turning lights for example, which may compromise security and information for other drivers, like when turning;
e) the ride is much smoother and more relaxed in the BYD than in the Tesla;
For short: is there space in BYD for improvements? Sure. A lot of them. But, let us back a few years in time, when the rear bumpers on Model 3 fall over on heavy rain; when interior quality was rubbish; when the doors did not open when the car self-combusts; etc… All the drawbacks that you have pointed to BYD Seal are in most cases OTA solutionable, because they are related with software. Problems on Tesla were mostly hardware and faulty design…
Let us wait a few months and see…

Would we expect any more from a Tesla fanboy? Test drove the new Model 3 and hated it. No stalks and gimmicky forward/reverse swipe on screen. Seats were hugely uncomfortable and sat too high.

If the car was rolling from a stop you need to turn on auto brake hold. It's the button to the left of the gear selector with an A on it. To be clear you absolutely CAN turn off the warning sounds, as annoying as they are. Unfortunately the EU doesn't allow this setting to remain after turning off

It's super frustrating watching this as a BYD Seal owner ..

I'm not even english and yet I have zero issues with my voice commands, dropdown menu etc.

Also, it takes less than 3sec to turn off the TSR and you wouldn't have to listen to the bips .. Just like with a Tesla M3 Highland.

You even have the option to change the breaking regen as well, which you didn't do.

All the things you complain about could have been fixed within a few sec through the dropdown menu 🙄

June 2024 Over-the-air software updates for the Seal have remedied most of your complaints, it's like a different car. Speed recognition improved, less and softer 'bings', addition of wireless android auto & Apple Car play. A Heads-up display, indicator stalk, comfortable suspension and useful buttons make it a pleasure to drive. I've owned a Premium model for 5 months and loving it, and much preferred it over the new Model 3 I drove for a couple of hours. Take a Performance model for a test drive, they are a lot of fun.
