Why Is The LEGO Goat So Rare?

One of the Lego designers who made the Lego Jurassic Park set of the Trex Escape said that he wanted to included a goat the set. He asked Lego if they had the mould but it was destroyed a while back.

I guess they forgot they had the mould to begin with.

Lego probably destroyed the mould for the goat ages ago as if the mould isn’t in use for more than 3 years it gets destroyed

My family actually visited Brickman's Lego Alphabet Museum in Aus and my sister and I saw a life sized lego goat for the letter G. But what freaked us out the most (and what got us really hyped) was that the infamous miniature lego goat (that's seen in this video) was atop the life sized lego build. It was in a lego glass casing and everything. It was truly an experience XD

I think they made a statement around the Ideas set being released that the Lego goat mold was gotten rid of to make place for other molds thus it's not financially reasonable to remake the mold again for one set only.

LEGO has made plenty of one-time animals before, like a hermit crab in the collectible minifigure line, or the woolly mammoth in the artic explorers line. I think what makes the goat so exceptionally expensive when compared to other, similarly rare animals is the usefulness/popularity. A woolly mammoth, while awesome, is composed of several large pieces, has only eye printing, and is fairly limited to use in a museum, prehistoric setting, or a sci-fi zoo. The hermit crab is a very small piece that is mostly restricted to use on beaches and terrariums. The goat, however, can be used in everything from farms to petting zoos to anything medieval to anything viking to anything rural. So the goat is like a pig in its usefulness, but like a woolly mammoth in its rarity. Given LEGO's extreme reluctance to bring back previous animal molds, I doubt the goat will return in its previous form. Why bother, when they can make new animals, like the otter and butterflies and moths from this year's City sets? Of course, the LEGO Group would make a fortune if they sold new goats on Pick-a-Brick at a steep price ($50 each, for example), so there's always hope that, just for once, their greed might benefit consumers.

I actually saw a bunch of lego goats in a “build your own figure stand” while strolling through a Lego store.

The reason goats didn't appear in the Blacksmith set is because they got rid of the moulds after they couldn't find more uses for the goats after the one set.

It could be because they know that the piece is rare
