How do you think the book compares to the movie?

The ending of the book was better. Wade meeting Artemis in Og`s garden for the first time was really sweet and a great closure.

00:43 that was the whole point of the book, it was made for gamers and geeks.

I dont know why every reviwer says that the book was ok or was crap, i quite enjoyed the book. The movie tries to cover too much in such a litle amount of time, i think it just tried too hard to thrown i as many easter eggs as possible. The movie is good, but like anyone who reads the original material of a movie could tell ya, the books is almost always better.

I saw the movie first, and really enjoyed it. But when I read the book, I was blown away. I was a teenager in the 80's so I could completely relate to the story, from Hallidays point of view.
Long story short, I'm listening to the book on audible, and I'm addicted to it.

the wrong person was chosen to review this in the video clip. her expression and words indicate that she didnt like it to begin with. Why the hell would I listen to a hater bash something I liked (Im talking about the book. The movie was too cookiecutter happy for me).?

The book was an homage to geeks in general and 80’s nostalgia specifically. It was a love letter to that era. The audience for the book was for people who either grew up in the 80’s or are gamers and love the history. The movie ignored what made the book warm, familiar and magical. The love Halliday had for all things 80’s, the reason why 80’s lore was such a big part of the world, why Wade was the one to win the contest were all missing. In the movie, there was nothing special about him. In the book, he was a treasure trove of 80’s trivia, and an old school gamer. Heck, in the movie, they never even explain what “Ready Player One” even references. I loved the book and found the movie a cold, CGI mess. What a disappointment.

I definitely preferred the book. Partly because I understood the majority of the references and mainly reason number 5. The movie was definitely a watered down version to appeal to casual fans and in the process lost it's gritty and authentic feel.

The tone shifted to a Spielberg blockbuster, it was never going to have the darker stakes/desperation of the book.

I waited 2 1/2 years for this movie, and I was thoroughly disappointed. Literally my favorite book of all time, so if they'd made it like 12 hours long and exactly like the book I would've still seen it

The movie was absolute trash when compared to the book, and the whole thing about it being like a big fan fiction is total bogus because it was made for people who are gamers/needs/geeks

the final battle was also better in the book a 4v1 battle against mecha godzillion make the beast seem that much more fearsome.

Hey! I care about those “obscure video game references”! I still play Black Tiger to this day. Wade in the movie has shoes because it’s not the apocalypse in a sense which you are thinking of, it is a gradual decline in life’s quality, but I believe there are shoes still left for people.

this is stupid. every critic and reviewer says Ready Player One is a piece of garbage with Easter eggs. it has a moving plot and relatable characters. I give it a 10/10.

Hey Lady, if u dont undrstand the references, is not our fault, the book was great.

They made I-rok an impactful character in the movie rather than the book but how come we didnt see him in real life as TJ Miller

This is why movie critics don't make films. All the changes made sense and worked within the context of the film. I'm not going to watch Wad play pacman to get a life.

you know i am surprised that she never mentioned the party scene to wher wade and artemies were dancing to rebel yell with ogden morrow being his birthday and artemis swimming in the anti gravity like a mermaid

Ok.. only 50 seconds in.. and I can already tell you're not the intended audience. Ready Player One, although not a Pulitzer prize winner, was a well written fun romp. References were far from obscure (again, given the right audience) . Not sure where this video will go.. but lets go...
