Linus vs. GN Content Style & Commenters, Ft. Linus Sebastian

We talk with Linus Sebastian about commenters, manufacturer/press relations, and how our two outlets get along without being overly competitive.

LinusTechTips is arguably the biggest technology channel in the space. Despite taking very different approaches to content, our two channels are able to get along and still learn from one another. This content talks about that, in sort of an 'interview' format with Linus Sebastian & Steve Burke, and covers other important industry topics.

I have to admit, I follow GN for Steve. He comes across as no bullshit, there seems to be no script and he says what's on his mind. He is also very technical, things like delta over ambient as opposed to just a temp, detailed charts, the excellent articles on the website. Im a geek i like numbers and well prepared research.

Was nice to see you wandering the floor at LTX Steve and it's content like this that fuels a good community and thank you for coming up to our little corner of the world up here.

Steve really is Tech Jesus guys. He's Uniting everyone and bringing peace and love to the tech community with all of these crossover videos.

This was a really good interview very Interesting. I tend to find that there is often very little/no friction at all between tech channels. Each one ends up finding a slight niche giving people a reason to view different channels videos even if they cover the same topic.

I kinda wish channels would do more crossover videos to expand further on content. Alternatively, the videos where Linus and GN competed for the highest overclock was great too.

Honestly, I watch as much as I can. Nothing like a wide perspective. :)

Keep toobin.

I liked your point of Linus Tech Tips being the "newbie friendly" way for people to go in cause that how I got into building PCs and looking for parts and reviews and stuff. So, yeah. That's a pretty accurate way to look at it (at least in my case.)

My opinion only.
Linus is a amazing presenter, who makes his videos fun to watch. Thing is though the guy is extremely knowledgeable, i have no doubt he could almost go toe to toe with steve in the technical side, however he seems to want to bring new comers in without scaring them off. Steve is amazing in his no bullsh#t approach but unless your hardcore into pc building, it might go over your head or just plain be boring. Jayz is kinda a middle ground, and lets face it, a water cooling god. All 3 are great and all 3 can teach you something.

It's weird how this channel has more videos at LTX than LTT, not that I'm complaining, the discussions with Luke, Jay, Linus and the bike ride review were all brilliant, .

I don't get why people think you need to compete, it's not like the 10 minutes I spend watching LTT's video means I can't watch a In-depth analysis from Gamers Nexus, or water cooling build from Jay, or the occasional rant from Louis Rossmann. And there is a good chance if I never watched so many LTT video's YouTube's algerithm's would never have recommended this channel to me.

I really like the anchor store analogy. I first saw a random LTT video in the side bar one day a few years ago and started watching. Here I am a few years later, having built my first PC and overclocked it. I'd still be using a mac right now if it weren't for him. I found GN soon after and I really like the in-depth content. I know more about my computers parts because of you guys.

It isn't far off. I went from LTT, to Jay, and then to GN when I started looking at building my own PC. I watch and enjoy all three channels for different reasons. When I want pure, unbiased info, this is where I go.

Like it was stated you're all different aspects of media covering the tech space. It's like one big family. You guys should get together more often to discuss different things like exclusions from samples from vendors, marketing and vendor relation strategies and exchange contacts in the industry.

What steve said was totally true
I entered the youtube tech scene through LTT then went on to discover Kyle/Paul/Jayz... then found myself knowledgeable enough to understand the videos here.

I love these tech crossover videos regardless of their context. Great to see the channels co-mingle.

Linus brought me hear at first like a year and a half ago. Linus is much easier for newcomers and steve brings the details. soon as i started to learn more I started watching more gn. I appreciate both you guys a lot and have learned a lot.

What you talk about at the 5 min mark is my story exactly.
I had mild interest in tech, but no real knowledge and had never watched any tech youtube.
I came across Linus, enjoyed his stuff, and from that I also started watching Jay, Kyle, and of course, you.
Linus got me hooked with the basics, you keep me going with more in-depth stuff.

watching this back in 2025 hits differently

A lot of parts to this video are great. To the part where he's describing Linus' role in the entire tech space on YouTube; it's completely right.
Being from Linus' channel and jumping over to here, once Linus' content started feeling less focused on tech details and more an entertainment tech channel, really pins the head on the symbiotic relationship the different channels have.

Steve, I saw you at LTX18 and I introduced myself, shook your hand and asked you to sign my iFixit toolkit lid. I wanted to thank you for coming to the event, but you were listening to the Q&A panel and I had already interrupted your listening. I didn't realize I was standing next to you until you turned toward me. Thank you for coming and I hope you come back next year. You're super cool and an amazing tech deity.
