The African Studies Program held its annual conference on "Africa-US Reengagement: A New Foreign Policy Agenda," on April 19, from 9 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. EST (2 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. WAT). They welcomed His Excellency, Vice President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as the keynote speaker for this conference! The day consisted of panels engaging the Biden-Harris administration in a new agenda for US-Africa relations towards answering the following questions:
How might African leadership better engage US partnership to achieve the common goals of economic development, particularly within the contexts of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and Agenda 2063?
How can Africa-US engagement support substantive democratic governance, more so around deemphasizing elections and privileging strong institutions?
How might African states leverage or renegotiate existing strategic partnerships with the US to achieve meaningful logistical and operational support?
How can a reset in Africa-US relations promote opportunities for growth through harnessing the exploding youth population, expanding women’s inclusion, and managing COVID-19 response and recovery?
