The thing I’ve never really understood about the whole flat earth thing is what exactly are the benefits of convincing an entire world that the earth is round that would motivate the governments of the world to do this.

In theory, they’re spending billions of dollars to make sure researchers, astronomers and everyone else doesn’t discover the “truth” that the earth is flat. What is the benefit of doing that? They wouldn’t do it just for a laugh.

My take on flat earth theory (a high schooler from Minnesota USA)
Context: So the states go west to east, Wyoming (mountains) South Dakota (very flat) Minnesota (pretty flat not as flat as South Dakota)
*Standing on a hill in Minnesota we should see the mountains of Wyoming if the earth was flat, but we don’t. We only see approximately 10 miles because of the earth’s curvature.*
In the simplest way I can say it and being understandable to most people

PS the 10 miles could change based on air quality for example anything from rain to fog to smoke in the air would change the distance and affect how clear far objects would be
