I still remember your first ever speedrun when you said you'd only do one. Never has an inaccuracy in terms of chess made me so happy.

Danya going through the history of position and openings and showing similar positions in other games is just amazing. Thank you Danya for the most instructive content on YouTube.

This video is my new favorite. This explanation of what is happening with openings is pure gold. I will watch this one in repeat.

I've say it many times and I'll continue saying it every time it comes up: I truly appreciate your devotion to justice and ethics. You are steadfast in maintaining an innocent-until-proven-guilty mentality. It is so rare these days to see people reject the mob-justice that has become the online norm.

There’s incredible value in trying to get the position into a spot where you just play chess. GMs are incredible memorizing machines if anything. Forcing your opponent to calculate is valuable. So I can see why playing offbeat lines is better.

111 moves in, we are still in theory. And this is why I stopped playing the Ruy Lopez. You have to memorize 20 move variations.

This speedrun series is the most theoretical educational one of all the speedrun series for me

That presidential convoy analogy was awesome.

As an opening lover, the analysis section of this video is the best overview on the different Ruy Lopez systems that I have ever seen!
Important to note, even when Danya plays against a - for some of us viewers - lower rated opponent, never underestimate the educational value of him explaining such a game.
I think this is your best video I have seen to date!

Very intersting observation Danya made about the openings at higher levels, as a intermediate/begginer player starting to learn theory, I can say I have focused on openings which I can have most of the control. One response for each opening I can face: KID, Caro-Kann, reverse Grand Prix Attack. And as white: I am currently a d4 player, London, KID: Averbakh variation, Catalan, Staunton Gambit. I also have variations to play e4: Grand Prix Attack, KIA, Vienna, Fantasy Caro-kann, etc. It's a very comfortable way to play.

The cheating stuff was super annoying. I’m around 1300 and play the alekhine and know a lot of the mainlines very deep. A lot of players at this level know a surprising amount of theory because they just enjoy learning it.

It’s when the theory ends the rating asserts itself. Still, it’s nice to always come out of the opening with a better position than your opponent.

Lower rated players study theory. I'm a 1700 on Lichess and sometime back I realized that even at a lower ratings I needed to study more opening theory because I was constantly getting outsmarted in the open by similar rated players. I got smacked down by a 1300 the other night that played the Caro Kann. The last thing I'm going to do is cry foul when I know one of the most popular chess YouTubers sells a course on that defense!

This is some of the most amazing content, as always! Thanks so much for this!

Daniel I absolutely loved your elaboration in the middle of this video! I'm an "expert" rated player and studying openings currently and the way you explained your take on modern theory and whatnot really was interesting to me. Thank you!
