Godowsky - Walzermasken (Waltz masks, 1912) Part 1

Показать описание
Leopold Godowsky (1870 - 1938) was a Polish-born, American virtuoso pianist, composer and teacher. His legacy of piano literature is priceless for the music world. Due to their extreme technical difficulty, his pieces are rarely played though. The 24 valses in Walzermasken collection are some of the easiest pieces Godowsky wrote (still very challenging though!) To make these pieces more accessible and known to pianists everywhere, I hereby play my personal favourites, showing their intricate beauty. May the pianists who dedicate their time to play these fun, "research" and polyphonic pieces, find joy and fulfillness of the kind that the standard classical repertoire does not provide.
[0:00] No. 4: Momento Capriccioso
A very delicate, snappy, small piece. The opening phrase reminds me a bit of Chopin's valse Op.64 No.2
[1:11] No. 5: Berceuse
A valse in the style of Satie I would say! Colorful, hear all these harmonies unleash!
[3:35] No. 7: Profil
A nostalgic and romantic valse reminiscent of Chopin's legendary valse Op. 69 No. 1. Ultra nice piece :)
Enjoy! (^-^)
▶ These recordings are the last I made from my old apartment in Trondheim, almost 1 year ago (May/June 2021). So this project has been going on for a while!
▶ Note that valses No. 1 (Karneval) and No. 2 (Pastel) from Walzermasken are also really nice to play and worth your time, even though they didn't make it to my top list :)
