Curlew feeding on a Co Clare beach, April 2019. A single pair was present here for much of early-April 2019. Are they Irish birds that will breed here? They are now a very rare breeding bird in Ireland and only around 1 in 70 wintering birds you see will be an Irish bird - the Irish population has declined by c.96% since the 1980's and as few as 138 pairs will breed here this year. We are losing our Curlew due to the changes that have rapidly taken place in our countryside as a result of agricultural intensification, afforestation, bog development etc. and nowhere near enough is being done to save this iconic Irish species. We must create a countryside where the curlew calls again!

Friends of Ecofact, I contact you to request some of these images of Curlew feeding. This species in its migration stops for a few months before reaching its final destination in South America in Venezuela, my country. We are making educational videos under a conservation program and it has been difficult for us to record images of this species. I was wondering if you could concede the use of these images for that purpose. If you need more information, do not hesitate to request it. I am Carolina Dávila, filmmaker and biologist.
