Why Is iOS Jailbreak Dying?

In today's video, we're discussing the reasons behind iOS Jailbreaking dying in recent years. What led to longer and longer waits between jailbreak releases, what happened to saurik and Cydia, and also who keeps the community alive. This is an analysis from a jailbreak developer (myself) and my opinion on the matter.

Jailbreaking your device is legal thanks to a DMCA exemption granted in 2012 and updated in 2015 which makes jailbreaking your device perfectly fine. With a jailbreak, you can customize the look and feel of your device's UI even further by installing themes, custom icons, custom fonts, animations, and tweaks.

one of the main reason for JB dying, JB devs dont get the credit and pride like they used to back in the day. In fact they get bashed and tortured for not developing soon or if the JB is unstable in early versions. There is no incentive anymore. combined with apple strengthening kernel, its dying out soon

I miss the old days were developers dropped jailbreak around Christmas as a gift to the community!!

I would also argue that Apple implementing ideas from the jailbreak scene contributed to the decline.

I used to jailbreak for tweaks like IntelliScreen X, Callbar XS, Noctis12, Winterboard/Anemone, or Tweaked ++ apps.

Now, we have Control Centre. Dark mode. Themed app packs can be installed, or individually created through the Shortcuts app. Tweaked apps can also be sideloaded.
Apart from a few use cases. Jailbreaking just isn’t that appealing anymore.

Another reason is Jailbreak devs are switching developed for Apple or other tech companies were the money is now, when l had collected a bounty on ios 12, a lot of the names of people collecting bounties were ex jailbreak and tweak devs.

I am grateful for the JB Community especially since I use my old iPhone 7 Plus to entirely remove YT and Twitch ads. Everyone knows that the lower the iOS version the higher chance % of getting a functional JB if people are constantly updating and upgrading devices then they have zero right to voice complaints

I remember waiting for IOS 8.1.3 jailbreak for 6+ months back in 2015 and eventually TaiG released IOS 8.1.3-8.4 jailbreak and I jailbroke my iPhone 6 on ios 8.4 at the time.

9 years later I’m on IOS 17.4 and waiting for a jailbreak again. Hopefully soon🤞…

There barely aren't any tweaks that are worth paying for. Where are the developers.

Honestly it feels like the only options are to: stick with an old version os ios, hope that new versions that can't be jailbreaked have the featurespecially you wanted, or just switch to android

It doesn’t matter if it’s “dying” you won’t update and you sure as hell will jb as soon as u get a chance, with the increase of tools and api, JB can make tweaks that will wipe out ios

Lets not forget Apple Bounty Program, a dev nowdays prefers to sell the exploit to Apple or te highest bidder and be done with it instead of creating a complete jailbreak environment tool to rely on donations, for me its a shame current jailbreak community is mostly gone, innovation is always key, iOS would not be were it is without tweaks in the first place, and newer generations will not know the OS freedom that jailbreaking gave to many of us.

Jailbreak is suffering there's no funding to compensate the developers for their time/efforts. If they charge/demand a small fee there will be outrage and a possible lawsuit buy Apple. Being able to side-load 3 modded apps (YouTube, FaceBook, Instagram) at a time and refresh every 7 days is suffice.
