Trace the lines of my face. Some were made by wind and weather, some by worries and laughter, some by ink and needle, all by my ancestors, the Inuit before me.

Tunniit, or what some know as Inuit tattoos, have in the last years seen a revitalization in recent years where Inuit throughout the Arctic have breathed new life into the traditional lines.
And highlighted them once more. But the roots of Tunniit run deep in the Inuit societies, both spiritually and culturally.

I absolutely adore the Inuit tattoos I’ve seen, and the strength they represent. However, I wish there was more information on what each of the common tattoo symbols and shapes mean. Sadly I have looked, haven’t hardly been able to find anything about this part of the culture I wish to learn more about 😕

Would it be cultural appropriation if I wanted to get a tattoo done like this from an Inuit tattoo artist in Greenland? I think this looks so beautiful!! I’m just curious. I wouldn’t want to wear something I’m not allowed to.
