C’est l’histoire d’une jeune fille, afro-américaine, ayant grandi à Wyoming(dans la banlieue de Cincinatti dans l'Ohio), une jeune fille un peu à part, solitaire, pas très entourée et surtout pas très à l’aise à sa place. À 17 ans, quand elle avoue à sa mère ne pas aimer son prénom d’origine, sa maman l’entend, et la rebaptise aussitôt Sudan.

Sudan Archives n’est pas d’origine soudanaise, mais cherche depuis son plus jeune âge un retour aux sources, à découvrir, comprendre ses racines, le continent africain. Alors, Sudan a quitté la neige pour filer en solo vers le soleil de Los Angeles, et c’est servie de son instrument de prédilection, le violon, dont elle a une approche autodidacte, quasi expérimentale, pour créer son propre univers musical, assez indescriptible. Le One Woman Band de Sudan Archives est aussi spirituel que mystique, aussi doux, caressant qu’étrange et fascinant. Il nous balade entre le Ghana, le Soudan, les influences de Francis Bebey, le tout mixé à des beats d’aujourd’hui.

C’est l’une des très belles surprises de cette année, nous avons réussi à la capter pour sa première tournée européenne, elle est signée sur le très pointu et respecté label Stones Throw. Mesdames & Messieurs, bienvenue à Sudan Archives !

I was frustrated at first cause I was waiting for her to belt out some vocal. Then I told my brain to shut up and listen with my heart. At that moment I was blown away by what I heard. I'm glad I did that!
