What are alternative investment funds (AIF) ?
AIFs are investment funds which invests in assets and strategies which cannot be classified into a category of stocks, bonds or cash.

How do these funds score over traditional investments?
AIFs are more traditional as compared to traditional funds in terms of short positions, performance objective, volatility, hedges exposure, correlation to equities and the ability to leverage. AIFs are distinct from PMS and mutual funds.

Alternative Investment funds are established in India in the form of trust and appoints investment managers. In India, these funds can be categorized into three main categories. Category III of this fund is significantly flexible providing investors the ability to use leverage and derivatives. It also administers the flexibility to use asset allocation.
