Το νησάκι της Χηνίτσας, ή Αλιούσσα όπως αναφέρεται από τον Παυσανία, χάνεται στους αιώνες, γιατί όπως καταγράφεται από τις ιστορικές πηγές έπαιζε καθοριστικό ρόλο στην κατασκευή και επεξεργασία της πορφύρας, μιας ιδιαίτερης χρωστικής ουσίας που παράγεται με την επεξεργασία που γίνετε στο όστρακο Haustellum brandaris και δίνει ένα μοναδικό ανεξίτηλο βαθυκόκκινο χρώμα.
Για τη διαδικασία αυτή ήταν ιδιαίτερα γνωστοί οι κάτοικοι των Αλιέων, ενός οικισμού που βρισκόταν στη θέση που είναι σήμερα το Πόρτο Χέλι και που άνθισε αρκετούς αιώνες πριν τον ερχομό του Χριστού.
Η ανάδειξη της πορφύρας ήταν ιδιαίτερα πολύτιμη λόγω της δυσκολίας για την Παρασκευή της αλλά και της σπανιότητας των οστράκων από τα οποία παράγεται, οπότε η χρήση ενδυμάτων βαμμένων με πορφύρα ήταν από την κλασσική αρχαιότητα ένδειξη πλούτου και εξουσίας. Έτσι, με το χρώμα της πορφύρας βάφονταν μεταξύ άλλων ορισμένα ενδύματα βασιλιάδων και αυτοκρατόρων, ενώ σύμφωνα με τη συνήθεια της εποχής τα νεογέννητα παιδιά των αυτοκρατόρων και βασιλέων τα ακουμπούσαν σε ύφασμα πορφυρού χρώματος .
Η Χηνίτσα εμφανίζεται και στους νεότερους χρόνους με τις επιδρομές των Σλάβων κατά τον 6ο αιώνα μ.Χ., ενώ ο φυσικός της κόλπος χρησίμευσε και σαν ναύσταθμος κατά την πορεία του στόλου προς Σικελία, του βυζαντινού αυτοκράτορα Κωνστάντιου του Β΄.
Σήμερα η Χηνίτσα είναι ένα ακατοίκητο νησάκι, ένας φυσικός όρμος καταφύγιο για σκάφη και θαλαμηγούς, που εάν κάποιος θελήσει να το εξερευνήσει και να κολυμπήσει στα καταγάλανα νερά του μπορεί να το επισκεφθεί είτε με σκάφος, είτε κολυμπώντας από την απέναντι παραλία του AKS Hinitsa Bay Hotel που είναι μια από τις καλύτερες παραλίες της Αργολίδας .

The islet of Hinitsa, or Alyoussa as mentioned by Pausanias, is lost in the centuries, because as recorded by the historical sources it played a decisive role in the manufacture and processing of purple, a special pigment produced by processing the shell Haustellum brandaris and gives a unique indelible deep red color.
The inhabitants of Alia, a settlement that was located where Porto Heli is today and that flourished several centuries before the coming of Christ, were particularly known for this process.
The highlighting of purple was particularly valuable due to the difficulty in its preparation and the rarity of the shells from which it is produced, so the use of clothes dyed with purple was from classical antiquity a sign of wealth and power. Thus, some clothes of kings and emperors were dyed with the color of purple, among others, while according to the custom of the time, the newborn children of emperors and kings were covered in purple cloth.
Hinitsa also appears in modern times with the raids of the Slavs in the 6th century AD, while its natural bay also served as a naval station during the route of the fleet to Sicily, of the Byzantine emperor Constantius II.
Today Hinitsa is an uninhabited islet, a natural bay shelter for boats and yachtsmen, which if someone wants to explore and swim in its deep blue waters can be visited either by boat or by swimming from the opposite beach of AKS Hinitsa Bay Hotel which is one of the best beaches of Argolis.
