Anti-Lock Braking System ABS EXPLAINED

As soon as the brakes were applied on the motorcycle in two different scenarios, it skidded out of control in one while remaining steady in the other. In a panic situation, when standard brakes are slammed, the wheels lock up, which can cause the vehicle to skid and lose steerability, especially on slippery surfaces. But with ABS, the system sends pulsating brake pressure to the calipers, preventing the wheels from locking up and allowing the rider to steer while braking. This controlled braking without skidding is how ABS has saved millions of lives.

I was driving a van with 12 people as passengers when a police car pulled out in front of me when i was travelling at around 30mph.
I slammed on the breaks, the ABS kicked in and the van shuddered to a stop within about 1 inch of the police car. It was the first time i was ever fully aware and impressed at how effective ABS is.

Can remember taking my lessons and being taught by my instructor to pump the breaks because he saw my car was so old. Don't drive that any more but still loved it.

This can be done without ABS (older cars and whatnot)! You can pump them very lightly while braking and you WILL notice a difference. A great tip from my partner that has helped me a few times
