Airport Food Vouchers Aren't What You Think

ever get delayed at an airport and the airline gives you food vouchers to help pass the time? well sadly not all restaurants and shops at airports will take those vouchers and if you get a very long delay or an overnight delay your vouchers may expire. so you should use them as fast as you can to be safe. the gate agents can't always help you if there is an issue either. some words of advice if you get delayed.

We were seven hours delayed at Vienna with Ryanair. No staff to get info from. No updates. Eventually told by another passenger that we could get a food and drink voucher. We just had to show our boarding pass at the only food outlet which accepted them. It was for a whole 4 euros. A bottle of water alone was 4 euros!

How do airports not take vouchers from airlines who are at said airport? It's like everyone passes the buck

I remember in Newark years ago, half the places wouldn’t taken them. Honestly in this day and age of apps, it would be better if the airline apps could store them or like if the app gave you a time / gps limited monetary balance gift card you could use with Apple Pay. Of course that would never happen as it would be make our lives too easy and they would actually have to pay us buts it’s an idea

And try to get your delay compensation from the airline! They make it nearly impossible.

My return flight from Seattle in May was cancelled and they gave us a voucher for a hotel and sent us to a hotel that didn't take the voucher. We chose to walk to another hotel and eat the cost. I'm glad we did as we heard horror stories from the other passengers who went to the other hotel. Yikes! The airline did give us credit for a future flight, but I would be hard pressed taking them again. We were rebooked on a flight home the following day so it could have been worse. My opinion is the vouchers aren't worth the paper they are printed on. 😁

I was at YUL - Montreal and my flight was cancelled. Every food kiosk that was open had a sign saying "airline vouchers not accepted here." It was as if the airport and the airlines were feuding. A very poorly run airport. There are better run airports in third world countries.

Liam is growing up so fast. I got a hotel voucher for a flight at 6 am when I was trying to still get the tickets after midnight. What good is it to drive to the hotel and back for that little amount of time

I just train myself to eat before leaving my house and not eat again until I reach my destination.

The last voucher I received I was able to add it to my Starbucks account and was able to use it later
