DragonOS LTS/10 Decoding radio transmissions (rtl_433 and SimplySafe v1)

How to use rtl_433, DragonOS LTS, and a RTL-SDR dongle to decode specific radio transmissions and devices. In this case, the radio transmission between the keypad and basestation of a legacy SimplySafe v1 I happened to have.

I suspect not many people have this exact device laying around and of course SimplySafe has moved well past this particular issue with new products, so take a look at all the other devices that can be decoded. It's likely you'll have something around you that rtl_433 can pick up from the confines of your house.

If you want to follow this video using DragonOS 10 you will need to follow the ShinySDR part 2 video to see how it's installed from source. Otherwise, use Dragon LTS which has it preinstalled.

Great videos! Thanks for posting them. Do you know of anything that can decode 303MHZ signals? For whatever reason, US ceiling fan remotes use that frequency instead of the readily read 433MHZ.

Has anyone looked at the newest SimpliSafe kit? Was any of the comms changed so this no longer works? (ninja-edit: thanks for these videos, been following and love DragonOS!)
