When the showmanship is more important than sportsmanship. TikTok is ruining these younglings

Parents living vicariously and cameras have ruined these children.

We used to be taught to respect our opponent no matter what. Flexing on someone for beating them would have got you benched in my day…for disrespect.

All parenting! Kids growing up with no consequences or accountability. Also parents acting like animals talking loud and cursing. This is our America. And I sure miss the old I grew up in 🥲

What’s actually wild is that we think it’s crazy when kids act like this. Even though all of their role models they watch on TV act like this. Of course they act like this. They see this behavior get rewarded every time they watch sports

Don’t blame the kids. Blame the parents and coaches that put up with it! Of course these days, they don’t have any more sense than the kids.

I remember when showmanship was looked down on, trash talk was done on the low so refs/coaches didn't hear, and no kids talked back to opposing coaches/parents

The refs not calling fouls and techs when they are clear fouls and techs is part of the problem.

This is the result of mainstream culture being indistinguishable from rap culture. Showing respect makes you weak, boasting makes you strong. Everything is backwards in this weird dystopia.

Bad Coaching and even more HORRENDOUS PARENTING!
I started really noticing this behaviour was getting out of hand and when my older Son who is now 21 and plays College Ball was in youth leagues in the 2010's
And it hasn't stopped at all, my younger Son in in Jr.high and this stuff goes on in the games as well...sometimes the Refs can't keep the game under control with the trash talking.
I DON"T think its a coincidence that its getting worse with each age group with all the social media exposure and highlights of older players, youtubers, and even Pros doing these antics.
-and the PARENTS behavior at games...well that deserves a video all to itself, every parents in modern basketball think thinks their kid is going the NBA.

Blame the refs, coaches and last but not least, the parents for not stopping that kind of disrespect.

I guess no one believes in good sportsmanship, or teaching kids to play hard but be respectful at the same time….sad sad sad

I coached a high level travel baseball team 20 years ago, and a was a high school football coach at the same time. Also coached several Pop Warner football teams to the regional championships. Never, ever, would I allow any of my players, and trust me I had plenty of amazing players, to act a fool like this. This is disgusting. If I coached today like I coached 20 years ago I would be in jail jail. Making big rocks into little rocks.

Ok as a parent, I promise you children don’t just end up like that naturally, every one of those kids learned that behavior from their parents or parent…you can argue it’s from the tv, or social media but who put the tv on? Who put the device in their hands? I guarantee you each of those kids parents is just as ignorant and disrespectful as they are turning out to be…when I was a kid (I’m 33) did we want to win?? Heck yeah we did, but did our parents, coaches and mentors teach us to not only play the game but to respect and love the game as well? Even a more resounding yes..why have these children been pushed to win and lose without grace you might ask? Well the answer is a pretty common one, MONEY, the idea that you can mold your child into an athlete with the potential to be “rich and famous” is the main driving factor, not physical fitness or genuine competition..we are so far gone as a society and people that instead of teaching a child (who will listen to anything you tell them) that you play these games to learn teamwork, grit, determination, discipline, sportsmanship etc. you teach them to do things like this video…why not dedicate that much time and “brainwashing” into something like idk, here’s how you grow your own food, here’s how you plow a field, here’s how you build a house, here’s how you take care of your community etc,

I am 52 and I use to play heavy in high school and even in college and if anyone ever ever ever ever ever ever said I was small, they getting dunked on straight up. They gettin taken to school. I never allowed this kind of disrespect. These kids are all doing it every game. It is sickening to watch. One time when I was playing, this kid tried to bounce the ball off my brothers head and hit him in the face instead, my brother nearly put the kid in a permanent coma. He had to go to criminal court and everything and he was only 16 at the time. The kid came out of the coma and they let my brother go. That coma kid never ever bounced the ball off anyones head again.
