Get Behind Me Satan! Was Peter Possessed?

Some have used the passage when Jesus said "get behind me Satan" to Peter as proof that a Christian can have a Demon. But is this what it's implying?

I didn't understand why Jesus rebuked Peter that way when I was reading the Bible. This video answers my question. Thanks a lot!

Truly insightful. I hope our Christian family can hear this and stop casting demons out of fellow Christians. Great video, Sean.

This is a perfect example of why false teachers should be exposed and rebuked. If Jesus didn’t rebuke Peter in this way then he would’ve continued to think and speak in the flesh and he may have discouraged many other believers. This way Peter was immediately pointed to the sacrifice and resurrection of our Lord

Satan means adversary. Jesus was telling Peter "don't be an adversary."

Wow! I just put up a short about can a Christian be demon possessed. Interesting to see this come up!
Love the analysis here!

Peters way of thinking at that moment was wrong. He didn't understand Jesus was going to suffer and die for all mankind.at that moment he was thinking what Satan wanted him to think. It doesn't mean he was possessed. It is very very important for each of us to read and study the Bible so we can discern if what these so called prophets and church leaders are actually speaking the truth or false doctrine. I've been reading the Bible since the age of 10, for more than 45 years, and still constantly learning something new every day.

When we are reborn of the Spirit of God, our FLESH is not reborn. When God moves into this, what the Bible calls the temple of the Holy Ghost, he begins to cast out that which is not of him. The battle has begun. We are not instantly PERFECTED when Jesus moves in. Demons dwell in our FLESH and CHRISTIANS most certainly DO have demons in our FLESH. In my FLESH dwells no good thing. Deliverance is MY BREAD, the children’s bread. Give us our DAILY BREAD, and this is DELIVERANCE. It is a LIFELONG process, as we go through this wilderness in this BODY of death, oh wretched woman I am. Oh but one CAN save me, Christ Jesus and this happens as a daily walk until we are FULLY delivered and receive our GLORIFIED BODY and then there will be no demons and only then.

Jesus was not calling Peter Satan, as in the fallen angel Satan. He was identifying him as an adversary, desiring to protect Jesus, thus hindering the plan of God fulfilled through Christ’s death and resurrection. The original Hebrew/Greek used for Satan in the Bible means adversary, sometimes meaning Satan, the fallen angel, and sometimes in reference to opposition to God’s agenda.

It is also a great example of so called prophets presuming to speak for God but they don't talk about that do they!

Not to mention that Peter didn't even have the Holy Spirit yet and wasn't regenerate yet so it'd be a bad example to use even if you thought Christians could get demon possessed (they don't).

Yeah, that is a definite stretch. 👍

James 3:14-15

'But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.'

There's the first example I could think of elsewhere in Scripture that demonstrates what you are talking about concerning Peter's 'wisdom' not coming from God when not understanding that Jesus must suffer and die.

That thinking, that 'wisdom' is undoubtedly influenced by Satan.
