Siege is so cool because there are so many creative ways to play the Ops depending on the site etc. However, I strongly feel that you *need* to play defenders that can do site setup (shotgun) if you are solo queuing, because rotations and sight lines are so valuable and you shouldn't rely on teamates to do it.

With that in mind I feel Mute and Castle are more valuable than some of these Defenders without a shotgun in their loadout. However I guess a counter to that would be to just play the better ones in this list that do have site setup like Aruni, Lesion, Smoke, Frost and Fenrir. And to that I say, yes. BUT I would still recommend to pick Mute or Castle over Solis, Azami and Wamai if your team doesn't have a shotgun. Like 100% without a question

I'm new to the game and I always play mute. It's the only character I feel like I can actually use their utility effectively right now. It also helps with learning the maps because I'm always trying to put the jammer in what I think are high traffic areas. I'd say I'm an above average fps player, but this game is hard. That being said, I made mvp the other day with 7 kills and it was fucking EXHILARATING

Though i wouldn't recomend frost trapping hatches. Almost everyone will look down and shoot it. Youd be lucky to get the Buck that stands on it and blows it out. Staircases, rotation points, near doorways, and windows are your best bet. Just be mindful that at certain windows (like 2nd floor points on Chalet) enemies can see and shoot your trap from a vertical rapel before entering.
